Meet Jace

Jace Daniel Ortiz was born in Amarillo, Tx on May 30, 2008. Jace was a special boy in so many ways and was truly a testament to God’s Work. Jace was the best son a parent could ever ask for and we were blessed to have him in our lives. We hope to enlighten you with memories that we have with Jace and inspire you as he had the tendency to do.

Jace was born with a heart defect that limited our time with him. Although he endured several surgeries, many hospital admissions, countless Dr. appointments and had to take many medicines daily, he went on each day with a smile on his face and always looking on the bright side of every situation. He truly inspired everyone he met and really taught us that life is about maintaining relationships and appreciating the small moments.

Jace entered the gates of God’s kingdom on February 10, 2016. He spent his last few days with his family at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston. Even during his last difficult days, he continued to show his parents his politeness, respect and tremendous love. He leaves behind his dad (Nick), mom (Elena), and little sister (Jaelyn).

Lil’ Chef

Jace was on a special protein diet that developed into a passion for cooking. Heshared this love for cooking with the people around him. He would make lunch for dad every day and enjoyed helping cook for family dinners.

Our Hero

In an effort to protect Jace, he wasn’t able to leave the house very often. He attended Kindergarten at Crestview and in 1st grade was a homebound student at Gene Howe. He was infatuated with shows such as Chicago Fire andChicago Med. He had so much interest in talking to policemen and firefighters. Jace considered them Heroes; little did he realize how much of a hero he really was.
